International Parent Welcome and Orientation
ISSS Staff would love to meet your parents!
International Student and Scholar Staff (ISSS) welcomes parents of
international students. If you have parents and other family members,
please bring them along to the International Student Orientation.
SCHEDULE
*Check-in and make a nametag for yourself.
*Enjoy coffee, tea, and fruit juice.
*Learn about Minnesota and University Traditions.
*Hear ISSS Director, Dr. Kay Thomas's Welcome.
*Meet with Dr. Thomas for advice and to answer your questions.
Parent Orientation will last approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.

International Student Orientation Program (ISOP)
The International Student Orientation Program (ISOP) is mandatory for all new international students. ISOP allows international students to become better acquainted with the University of Minnesota, the office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS), as well as other international students. During ISOP, students will receive information about living and studying here, as well as valuable information about maintaining their non-immigrant legal status.
As an admitted student to the University of Minnesota (e.g. Graduate School, Undergraduate degree, Law School, or a Non-degree seeking program), there may be other orientations that you are required to attend. Contact your college and/or department to find out about orientation, sign up for its orientation program and confirm the date. Be sure the orientations that you will be required to attend do not conflict with the date of the International Student Orientation Program.
After you check in to your housing, visit ISSS in 190 Humphrey Center for a brief document check, after which you can sign up for ISOP and register for classes. |

Curricular/Optional Practical Training workshops
For students with an F-1 status
If you are interested in applying for curricular/optional practical training, please attend one of these workshops to:
* get application forms Curricular/Optional Practical Training workshops
* learn basic rules, eligibility requirements, and application procedures
* ask questions
* get assistance filling out forms.
